Madrid Exhibition Explores Valle-Inclán's Literary Connection to the Capital

The Community of Madrid has launched an exhibition examining how the city influenced the life and work of Galician writer Ramón María del Valle-Inclán. Titled 'Valle-Inclán en Madrid,' the free exhibition runs at the Biblioteca Regional de Madrid's Sala de Exposiciones until June 21, 2026. Curated by Joaquín del Valle-Inclán Alsina, it focuses on the writer's three periods of residence in Madrid (1891-1892, 1895-1912, 1925-1935), presenting manuscripts, first editions, letters, photographs, and personal items from the regional library's collections and loans from institutions including the Biblioteca Nacional de España and the Museo de Valle-Inclán. The exhibition highlights Madrid's role as a creative environment for Valle-Inclán, a key 20th-century author known for the esperpento genre and his critical modern perspective. A complementary program includes guided tours, conferences on his literary and theatrical legacy, a theater performance, and a film series featuring adaptations of his works.
