Madrid bookstore Muga quits book fair association over director's firing

The Madrid bookstore Muga has withdrawn from the Asociación de Librerías de Madrid, the organization behind the Feria del Libro, following the dismissal of director Eva Orúe. In a video posted on Instagram, bookseller Igor Muñiz stated the bookstore disagrees with both the termination and the board's stated reason—"falta de confianza" (lack of trust). Muñiz praised Orúe's dedication and results, calling the manner of her departure unjust. He wished the association luck but acknowledged a "difficult path ahead." The decision reflects broader discontent among booksellers and publishers, many of whom have publicly supported Orúe and demanded an explanation for her ouster. Muga's exit marks a significant rift within Madrid's literary community, as the Feria del Libro is a major cultural event. The association now faces pressure to clarify its decision and address growing internal dissent.
