Madras Spaces Completes Minimalist Farmhouse in Tamil Nadu Using Repurposed Materials

Madras Spaces, an architecture studio based in Chennai, has finished constructing The Threshold House, a 93-square-meter farmhouse in the village of V Thuraiyur, Tamil Nadu. The project employed a minimalist approach, utilizing locally sourced and repurposed materials like brick, timber, and tiles. Principal architect Aswin Karthik explained that the design responds to a tight site by creating an introverted exterior that opens into fluid interior spaces. The home features a load-bearing brick structure, a concrete upper floor, and a roof covered with traditional Mangalore tiles. A third of the property is dedicated to a patio, and the interior includes an open ground floor with a central courtyard, a kitchen, and two bedrooms on the upper level. The studio emphasized sustainability and connection to local building traditions.
