M HKA hosts 'we refuse_d' exhibition exploring refusal as artistic method across Arab world and beyond

The exhibition titled 'we refuse_d' has launched at M HKA in Antwerp, marking a celebration of fifteen years of the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. Curated by Nadia Radwan and Vasif Kortun, it delves into themes of refusal through lenses of displacement, institutional critique, and artistic agency. Initially hosted in Doha, this exhibition showcases newly commissioned pieces that confront issues of censorship and political limitations. Featured artists include Khalil Rabah, Barış Doğrusöz, Nour Shantout, DAAR, Samia Halaby, Walid Raad (collaborating with Pierre Huyghebaert), and Taysir Batniji. It investigates refusal as a means of negotiating visibility and legitimacy within European institutions and runs until 7 June 2026.
