Lyles & King Gallery in New York Closes After 11 Years

On July 2, Lyles & King, a contemporary art gallery located in New York, announced its closure after 11 years of service via an Instagram post. Founded by Isaac Lyles, who previously worked as the associate director at Derek Eller Gallery, the gallery opened in May 2015, debuting at NADA New York's spring fair. Initially situated on Forsyth Street, it relocated to Catherine Street in 2020 and later expanded to Henry Street. Over its 11-year span, the gallery hosted 118 exhibitions, including a final show in June featuring Jessie Makinson and a group exhibition with Cato Ouyang, Fernanda Galvão, and Ren Light Pan. Lyles & King was known for supporting artists such as Mira Schor and Chris Hood. No specific reason was provided for the closure, which aligns with a trend of gallery shutdowns across the US, including notable names like Kasmin and LA Louver. Lyles encouraged new galleries to "be fearless, be slow, be true to yourself."
