Luca Vernizzi's MACRO POP Exhibition at Fabbrica del Vapore Explores Objects as Portraits

Luca Vernizzi, an Italian artist, presents the exhibition MACRO POP at Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan, specifically in Sala Messina 2, from March 10 to April 17, 2026, as part of Art Week. Organized by the Municipality of Milan's Cultural Department in collaboration with Fabbrica del Vapore, the show marks Vernizzi's 85th birthday but serves as a visual and conceptual summary of his artistic journey rather than a mere tribute. Known for his portrait work, Vernizzi expands the notion of portraiture to include everyday objects, elevating them through monumental scale and spatial isolation. These objects, ranging from a bottle to a keychain, become subjects that reflect on memory and identity, drawing inspiration from Jorge Luis Borges's ideas about objects as silent archives. Vernizzi, a former professor at Accademia di Brera from 1975 to 2013 and a critic for Corriere della Sera in the 1960s, connects his exploration to broader themes of consumption and urban memory in Milan. The exhibition offers free admission, with specific hours: Tuesday to Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and weekends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, including special openings during Easter and Art Week.
