Luca Vanello's 'Withering into Breath' at Z33 Explores Material Vulnerability Through Organic and Synthetic Forms

exhibition · 2026-04-06

Luca Vanello's solo show, titled 'Withering into breath, wetness undoes itself,' is on display at Z33 - House for Contemporary Art, Design & Architecture in Hasselt, Belgium, until April 12, 2026. Curated by Kevin Gallagher, the exhibition showcases plants treated to remove chlorophyll from therapeutic gardens, alongside 3D-printed prosthetics for animals and objects derived from marine sources, all set against white panels. A structure made of bamboo and glass, equipped with humidifier technology, emits distilled water vapor to engage humidity-sensitive materials. Since its opening on February 12, the artworks have evolved due to changes in humidity. Most installation views were captured by Silvia Cappellari. This marks Vanello's inaugural solo exhibition at Z33, located at Zuivelmarkt 33 in Hasselt.
