Luca Granato's 'Liminale' Exhibition at Marameo in Florence Explores Urban Spectacle

Artist Luca Granato presents 'Liminale,' an exhibition at the independent space Marameo in Florence, curated by Lucrezia Caliani and open until May 3, 2026. The show results from a residency held from February 27 to March 12, 2026, in collaboration with the cultural association Osservatoriomaree, located within a glass-walled room at the historic Hotel Torre Guelfa. This architectural setup allowed passersby to observe the artistic process, creating what the curator described as an 'urban aquarium' that fosters mutual viewing between artist and city. During the opening, a site-specific performance titled 'Cartografia di un corpo' by dancer Irene Lombardi, with electronic musician Andrea Lenzi, took place, aligning with Marameo's focus on integrating exhibitions and performances. Granato's work investigates Florence as a 'efficient scenography' dominated by mass tourism, questioning the friction between image and lived experience through photographs, a video of a performance in crowded streets, and found objects recontextualized as art. The exhibition initiates a new residency program by Marameo and Hotel Torre Guelfa, aiming to promote open production and urban reappropriation. Marameo, founded in 2025 by Gianluca Braccini, Cristoforo Maria Lippi, Jonathan Soliman Awadalla, and Corso Zucconi, draws from the collective Eterotopie and Michel Foucault's concept of heterotopias as alternative spaces.
