Louvre to Mount Major Zurbarán Retrospective in Fall 2026

The Musée du Louvre will present a major exhibition on Francisco de Zurbarán (1598-1664) from October 7, 2026 to January 25, 2027, the first Parisian retrospective since 1988. Organized with the National Gallery, London and the Art Institute of Chicago, the show will assemble nearly 65 works, focusing on the Spanish master's religious commissions, portraits, still lifes, and his influence on modernists like Manet, Picasso, and Juan Gris. Concurrently, the Hall Napoléon will host "Sculpter la couleur. Chefs-d'œuvre du Museo Nacional de Escultura de Valladolid," featuring 23 polychrome wood sculptures from the Spanish Golden Age, including Gregorio Fernández's life-size "Cristo de la Luz" and works by Alonso Cano, Luisa Roldán, and Pedro de Mena. The dual exhibition is part of a broader Spanish season at the Louvre from October to December 2026, with concerts, screenings, and talks.
