Louvre appoints new directors for Sculptures and Graphic Arts departments

The Louvre Museum in Paris has announced leadership changes in two of its major heritage departments. Stéphanie Deschamps-Tan, 48, has been appointed director of the Sculptures department, effective August 5, for a renewable three-year term. She had been with the department since 2013 and served as deputy director since 2025. Deschamps-Tan, a former director of the Beaux-Arts d'Arras, succeeds Sophie Jugie, who has moved to the Service des musées de France. In the Graphic Arts department, Ketty Gottardo, 53, will assume the directorship on October 1, also for a three-year term. She replaces Xavier Salmon, who had held the post since 2013 and whose mandate was not renewed. Gottardo, a specialist in old master drawings, brings experience from the Louvre, the Getty, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Christie's, and the Courtauld Gallery. Her role will involve balancing conservation with the promotion of the department's particularly fragile collection. The appointments reflect the museum's ongoing efforts to refresh leadership across its curatorial departments.
