Losing Face review: sloppy, shallow and unfunny

Marieke Hardy's play 'Losing Face' at Melbourne Theatre Company is a critical failure. Directed by Leticia Cáceres, it stars Michala Banas, Madeleine Sami, Christie Whelan Browne, and Genevieve Morris. The plot follows three friends at a Byron Bay wellness retreat, but the play is derivative, unfunny, and relies on tired tropes including a South African caricature. Despite strong performances and Jo Briscoe's set and costume design, Hardy's script is muddled and shallow. The play runs at Southbank Theatre until 25 July.
