Los Angeles Museums Launch Major Renovations Ahead of 2028 Olympics

With the 2028 Olympic Games on the horizon, two major museums in Los Angeles are gearing up for significant renovations. The Getty Center in Brentwood is planning to close its doors in March 2027 for major updates, while the La Brea Tar Pits' George C. Page Museum will shut down on July 6, 2024. Both expect to reopen before the summer of 2028. The Getty Center will see its first big renovation in three decades, focusing on gallery improvements, tram system upgrades, and better utilities like WiFi. The $240 million redesign of the Page Museum, led by Weiss/Manfredi, will feature open research labs and an immersive theater. Meanwhile, selected exhibits will be displayed at the Getty Villa during the renovations.
