Loewe Celebrates 180 Years with Anniversary Campaign and Capsule Collection
Loewe, recognized as the second-oldest luxury brand globally, is celebrating its 180th anniversary with a special campaign and a capsule collection highlighting its history in leather goods. Established in 1846 by leather artisans in Madrid, the brand was consolidated in 1872 by German craftsman Enrique Loewe Roessberg. It gained the status of official supplier to the Spanish Royal Household around the early 1900s and introduced the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize in 2016. The anniversary campaign, photographed by Talia Chetrit, showcases ambassadors Julia Garner and Giselle alongside iconic pieces like the 1980s Flamenco Clutch and the 2015 Puzzle bag, created by former Creative Director Jonathan Anderson. The capsule features the Amazona 180, a reimagined 1975 design by current creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who transitioned from Proenza Schouler. This design originally represented the increasing independence of women in Spain. The collection also includes archival items adorned with a lion motif, alluding to the German meaning of Löwe. An animated film narrated by Antonio Banderas tells the brand's story, which predates innovations such as the lightbulb.
