linx Transforms Pinball Machine Sounds into Musical Collage on 'Flipperen'

Under the moniker linx, Suzana Lașcu, Robert Kroos, and Reinier van Houdt have unveiled 'Flipperen' on CD through Futura Resistenza. This project reimagines recordings from vintage pinball machines, mainly obtained from a museum in Rotterdam that celebrates this pre-Internet pastime. The recordings were made during two sessions at L'Aology Sonia Studios, emerging during the pandemic when the museum was silent. Utilizing cut-up techniques, the trio transformed the original sounds into 28 samples, creating a 'game piece' that emphasizes the ball's movements and interactions. The sound design merges musicality with pinball dynamics, reflecting Fluxus principles and experimental approaches that embrace randomness. The album cover features a 1973 artwork by Dutch situationist Jaqueline de Jong, referencing pinball and the 'ruin of existence.' 'Flipperen' enhances the expressive nature of mechanical sounds, encouraging an open listening experience filled with variations and bounces.
