Lily Allen Portrait on Year-Long Display at London's National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery in London has unveiled a new portrait of British singer Lily Allen, which will be publicly exhibited for one year. Created by Spanish artist Nieves González, the oil painting previously served as the cover for Allen's latest album, 'West End Girl,' released in October 2025. The artwork depicts Allen wearing a light blue polka-dotted puffer jacket against a dark background. Allen commissioned the portrait from González and later used it for her album, which has reportedly been streamed over 300 million times. González is recognized for her oil paintings that blend 17th-century portrait traditions with contemporary elements, and this marks her first loan to a major public institution in the United Kingdom. Allen stated that the portrait brilliantly captures the album's mood, reflecting themes of strength, vulnerability, and determination. González aimed to create an intimate yet powerful image that translates classical visual language into a modern context. Victoria Siddall, director of the National Portrait Gallery, described Allen as a defining voice of her generation and noted the portrait as a striking example of merging tradition with the present, already becoming an iconic representation.
