Leonardo Drew Presents New Paper-Pulp Works in Solo Exhibition at Pace Prints

Pace Prints in New York will host a solo exhibition featuring Leonardo Drew's cast handmade paper-pulp creations from March 19 to April 25, 2026. The show, located at 536 West 22nd Street, includes an opening reception on March 19. This presentation represents Drew's fifth individual show with Pace Prints, highlighting a partnership that began over fifteen years ago with Pace Paper in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The exhibition displays new editions, monoprints, and unique assemblages the artist refers to as 'tattered quilts.' Drew has developed a method using handmade urethane molds since 2012, applying pigmented paper pulp that dries and is then reassembled into intricate compositions. These works expand beyond traditional print formats into wall reliefs that approach installation art. Examples like 122P and 123P demonstrate this sculptural quality, with surfaces that evoke the artist's larger public and museum projects. Drew avoids conventional aesthetics, instead finding beauty in what he describes as 'monstrosities,' with abstractions that engage with contemporary global issues without imposing specific narratives. Color plays a significant role, with vibrant hues in pieces such as 97P and 96P, while others like 124P and 100P use only black or white for stark contrast. This exhibition underscores paper's potential for substantial artistic expression, marking an advancement in Drew's exploration of abstraction and materiality.
