Leo Matiz's intimate Frida Kahlo photographs debut at Artcurial Milan in 2026

exhibition · 2026-04-09

Artcurial Milan will host the exhibition 'Frida Kahlo & Leo Matiz. One Gaze, Two Souls' from April 15 to 24, 2026. Colombian photographer Leo Matiz (1917-1998) captured Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) between 1940 and 1948 in Mexico City's Coyoacán district. Curated by Paola Colombari with the Leo Matiz Foundation (Mexico City), the show presents spontaneous portraits revealing Kahlo's strong personality beyond her physical suffering. Matiz's images document moments from Kahlo's daily life, reflecting both her intense spirit and his own artistic maturity during their friendship. The photographs offer an intimate glimpse into the artist's world, moving beyond conventional portraiture to capture authentic encounters.
