Laurie Lambrecht's 'tēxēre' Blends Photography and Textile in Nature

Laurie Lambrecht's new book 'tēxēre' (Radius Books, 2026) merges photography and textile art with the landscape. The work features trees wrapped in woven textiles, rocks with knitted coverings, and stitched interventions that blend into nature. Lambrecht's practice combines photography and thread, inspired by residencies at KH Messen (Norway), Can Serat (Catalonia), Sitka Center for Art and Ecology (Oregon Coast), Icelandic Textile Center, Jentel (Wyoming), and Montello Foundation (Nevada). Her career began at Light Gallery, influenced by Aaron Siskind and Harry Callahan. She worked as administrative assistant to Roy Lichtenstein in the early 1990s, later publishing 'Roy Lichtenstein in His Studio' (Monacelli Press, 2011). She collaborated with Robert Wilson at the Watermill Center until his death in 2025. From 2012–2014, she photographed for the Rauschenberg Foundation in Captiva, Florida. Her first outdoor installation combining weaving and photography was at Madoo Garden Conservancy in 2019, presented by the Parrish Art Museum. Subsequent installations were at Watermill Center, Sylvester Manor, Leiber Collection Garden, and Nassau County Museum of Art. Her photographs are held by the National Gallery of Art, Center for Creative Photography, and Parrish Art Museum.
