Laurenz Theinert lets prices drop daily in Stuttgart experiment

German photographer and light artist Laurenz Theinert will test the market's role in determining art value with a nine-day exhibition at Schacher – Raum für Kunst in Stuttgart. Titled Obsolescence Programmée, the show opens July 18, 2026, at 6 p.m. and runs through July 26. Each day, the price of every photograph on display will be reduced by 10 percent, creating a dynamic where waiting lowers cost but risks losing the work to another buyer. The concept challenges the notion of fixed art value, allowing prices to settle at the moment a visitor decides to purchase.
