Laura Phipps Appointed Director of Gochman Family Collection as New Indigenous Art Space Opens

Laura Phipps, previously an associate curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, has been named director of the Gochman Family Collection. This private lending collection, established in 2021 by Becky Gochman and Zach Feuer, focuses on contemporary Indigenous artists and holds around 750 works. The organization is preparing to launch a permanent exhibition venue in Katonah, Westchester County, this fall, featuring 10,000 square feet of gallery space. Phipps highlighted the opportunity to present the collection more publicly and adapt to community needs. The collection has loaned 260 pieces to over 100 exhibitions worldwide and maintains connections with the Forge Project, a Native-led nonprofit.
