Latvian National Museum of Art Hosts First Major Survey of Māra Vaičunas

The first significant exhibition focused on the enigmatic artist Māra Vaičunas, titled 'Māra Vaičunas. Beyond', is being showcased at the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga. This event will take place from 5 September 2026 until 14 March 2027, utilizing the right wing galleries on the museum's second floor as part of The Generation cycle. Vaičunas, who has largely remained under the radar, intentionally distanced herself from the art community to safeguard her artistic independence. Her artwork explores themes that are more easily visualized than expressed in words. During a time when painting was dominated by conceptual depth and figuration, her pieces stood out. This exhibition provides a rare opportunity to appreciate her work, which was created in solitude.
