Laisul Hoque solo show at Grand Union explores Birmingham's Bangladeshi diaspora

In July 2026, Grand Union, in collaboration with Bow Arts, will showcase a solo exhibition featuring the work of Laisul Hoque. This new collection explores the emotional landscapes and inner experiences of Birmingham's inhabitants, viewed through the lens of a first-generation migrant acclimating to the city. The artwork, filmed within vehicles, amidst construction zones, congested roads, and South Asian neighborhoods on the periphery, contemplates themes of mobility, belonging, and displacement. It provides insight into the lives of Bangladeshi communities who have established their homes in Birmingham. Interactions with friends, driving instructors, and archival references to Bangladeshi political figures uncover the city's concealed histories.
