Kupferstichkabinett Exhibits Major Donations Highlighting Collector Networks

The Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin is currently presenting two exhibitions centered on significant donations. 'YES TO ALL. Die Schenkung Paul Maenz Gerd de Vries' and 'Das alles bin ich. Schenkung Christoph Müller' showcase second donations from these collectors, following earlier gifts in 2004 and 2007 respectively. Director Dagmar Korbacher explains that these donations represent more than individual artworks, encompassing entire networks of gallery history and personal relationships. The Maenz/de Vries donation includes over 1,500 works, while both collections feature artists from movements like conceptual art, Arte Povera, and Neue Wilde. The exhibitions reveal how donations involve long-term trust between collectors and the museum, with the institution now undertaking substantial documentation and preservation work to maintain these cohesive collections for public access and future research.
