Klara Hosnedlova's monumental fiber installation debuts at New Museum expansion

Klara Hosnedlova's U.S. debut features an installation of green flax and hemp that flows down the atrium of the New Museum across four levels. The 36-year-old Czech artist crafts expansive "tapestries" that incorporate embroidery, carved sandstone sculptures, and cast-glass talons, all of which release a musky scent. The artwork wraps around the staircase created by OMA and gathers on the floor. Utilizing natural pigments in a traditional Czech method, Hosnedlova hand-dyes the strands. Her installation debuted alongside "New Humans: Memories of the Future," curated by Massimiliano Gioni, who noted that "Klara returns to futures that have not yet occurred." Previously, Hosnedlova showcased her work at Berlin's Hamburger Bahnhof and views exhibitions as immersive landscapes.
