Kendall Jenner Wears Rare 1955 Alexander Calder Earrings in Venice

During the Venice Film Festival, Kendall Jenner wore a pair of ultra-rare Alexander Calder earrings from 1955, made of hammered silver and steel wire. The earrings were sourced by London-based gallerist Louisa Guinness, who specializes in artist-made jewelry. The request came through the Calder Foundation, a New York collector, and Jenner's stylist Dani Michelle. Guinness noted that Calder earrings are scarce and that she was reluctant to part with them. Jenner, an art collector herself, purchased the earrings, which Guinness found notable as many people only borrow. The earrings are part of Calder's lesser-known jewelry practice, which began in the 1920s and was worn by figures like Peggy Guggenheim, who famously wore a Calder earring at the opening of her Art of This Century gallery in 1942. Jenner also wore Peggy-inspired sunglasses during the trip. Guinness hopes Jenner's purchase will introduce a new generation to artist-made jewelry, and she suggests future pieces by Anish Kapoor or Lucio Fontana. Calder's jewelry is noted for being handcrafted by the artist himself, unlike much artist-designed jewelry that involves goldsmiths. The earrings remain modern-looking nearly 70 years later, and Guinness mentions a trend of Calder brooches on fall 2026 runways by Giorgio Armani, Tory Burch, and Simone Rocha.
