Kazuo Ishiguro curates BFI season of train films

Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro has curated a season of train-themed films for the British Film Institute (BFI), drawing on his long-standing fascination with railways in cinema. The season includes works by Martin Scorsese, Alfonso Cuarón, and others, with Ishiguro selecting titles that explore the narrative and emotional potential of trains. The program features classics such as 'The Train' (1964) and 'Brief Encounter' (1945), alongside contemporary films like 'Snowpiercer' (2013). Ishiguro describes his interest as bordering on an obsession, noting how trains serve as powerful metaphors for journey, time, and social change. The BFI season runs from March to April 2025 at BFI Southbank in London.
