Katō Ryōtarō's US solo debut at Joan B Mirviss LTD

Joan B Mirviss LTD in New York presents 'Colored by Flame: The Artistry of Katō Ryōtarō', the Japanese ceramic artist's first solo exhibition in the United States. The show features over twenty new works showcasing six distinct glazing styles, plus two calligraphy pieces. Katō Ryōtarō (b. 1974) is an eighth-generation ceramic artist from the Mino region. His grandfather, Katō Takuo (1917–2005), was a Living National Treasure known for recreating historical Persian glazes and lusterware. His father, Katō Kōbei VII (b. 1945), continues that tradition. Ryōtarō, however, returns to his family's earlier roots: ash-based glazes and wood-fired kiln techniques from the Mino region.
