Katie Porter, the former U.S. Representative, revealed that she is unlikely to pursue another public office after garnering under 5% of the votes in the California gubernatorial primary held in June 2026. On her personal Instagram, the Democrat transformed one of her accounts into "Katie Porter Turns the Page," aimed at sharing book discussions and recommendations. An attorney and law professor at UC Irvine, Porter began extensive reading during the COVID-19 pandemic and initiated a book group in Irvine. Known for her tough questioning of executives using a whiteboard, she won a Republican-held congressional seat in Orange County in 2018. After finishing third in the 2024 U.S. Senate race against Dianne Feinstein, she launched her gubernatorial campaign the next year but faced scrutiny over her temperament, including a leaked video of her confronting a staffer. Porter believes some of the backlash stemmed from gender bias and emphasized her commitment to public service, aiming to participate in policy discussions and educate others about government.
