Kathy Shorr's SHOT: We the School Community Portrays Survivors of U.S. School Shootings
Kathy Shorr, a photographer, has finalized her project SHOT: We the School Community, marking the third phase of her 13-year exploration of gun violence in the U.S. This initiative showcases portraits of students, parents, teachers, and community members impacted by school shootings, with each individual choosing a location that holds personal meaning. Some selected the sites of the tragedies, while others opted for places of solace. The series includes various educational institutions such as Oxford High School in Michigan, Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, and Michigan State University. Shorr emphasizes that gun violence affects everyone, advocating for secure firearm storage in homes with children or individuals with mental challenges. Her earlier works include SHOT: 101 Survivors of Gun Violence in America and SHOT: We the Mothers Philadelphia and Miami, having photographed 300 survivors over the years.
