Kaori Someya's Urahaku Nihonga Paintings at Ippodo Gallery
Ippodo Gallery in New York City is set to present "Kaori Someya: The Light Within" from September 10 to October 17, 2026, featuring new pieces by Japanese artist Kaori Someya. The opening event will take place on September 10 from 5 to 8 PM, with Someya participating following her artist residency in Brooklyn. The exhibition will display over twelve new urahaku Nihonga paintings, characterized by luminous effects created with gold leaf on the reverse of the canvas. Among the notable works are two folding screens inspired by the Rimpa school, incorporating elements from esteemed artists Sōtatsu and Kōrin.
