In her autobiographical novel "Wilde Mutter, ferner Vater" (Wild Mother, Distant Father), published in 2022, journalist Jutta Voigt recounts a pivotal meeting with Wolfgang Heise, a prominent philosopher in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The encounter, which occurred during Voigt's philosophy studies at Humboldt University in the 1960s, profoundly influenced her career path. At the time, Voigt, who goes by the name Judy in the book, was contemplating abandoning her studies, dreaming instead of revolution, love, and the Rolling Stones. Heise, described as a great thinker and humanitarian, took time to engage with her, an act that left her astonished and ultimately steered her toward journalism. Her mother, Margit, met Voigt's father, Willi, at age eighteen, and their relationship is central to the narrative.
