Juliette Cassidy's 24 Hour Party, People Documents Barcelona's Hardcore Scene

Photographer Juliette Cassidy has launched '24 Hour Party, People', a project exploring the hardcore and car tuning scene in Barcelona. Rather than a club reportage or aestheticization, the work focuses on tribal loyalty and community bonds. The scene's roots trace back to Valencia's Ruta del Bakalao, a highway club circuit that turned Spanish weekends into collective rituals in the 1980s and 1990s. Cassidy told Dazed the space has 'incredibly strong and passionate values, and a strict DIY ethical code'. She photographed from 11 a.m., pausing at dusk and resuming around 6 p.m. when sunlight shifted the atmosphere. At dawn, images became more honest as subjects' defenses dropped; Cassidy remained lucid, capturing moments of great honesty. The resulting pictures show couples sharing cigarettes and friends in conversation, portraying not a counterculture but a support system. Cassidy noted that many in the scene have difficult lives, and their bond is a necessity. When one crew member had to leave, everyone left together. Amid debates oscillating between nostalgia and alarmism about clubbing, '24 Hour Party, People' chooses to depict closeness, trust earned by staying and waiting for dawn together.
