Julia Jacklin has released a new single, 'The Hardest Thing', the latest preview from her fourth album, 'The Gem', due out on September 25. The album was produced with her old friend Robert Muinos and recorded in Melbourne, where Jacklin returned to reconnect with herself after extensive touring. The recording took place in a makeshift studio—a converted hotel room above a pub—which provided a lively backdrop of ambient noise from nearby barbershops, tattoo studios, and the kitchen crew below, enriching the album's sound. Thematically, 'The Gem' explores the balance between love and personal freedom, intuition, and the people and things that make life worth living. Jacklin described the creative process as 'tapping in the dark', relying on trust rather than certainty. The single follows her recent releases 'I Wish' and 'Get Away From Me'.
