José Parlá explores memory and neuroscience in ENGRAMS at Ben Brown Fine Arts

ENGRAMS, an exhibition showcasing new paintings and paper works by Brooklyn artist José Parlá, is being presented by Ben Brown Fine Arts. This display includes nine canvases and six paper pieces, available for viewing at the gallery in London from 9 June to 31 July 2026. The concept of 'engram' signifies the lasting imprint a memory creates in the brain, illustrating memory as a process of reconstruction rather than mere retrieval. Parlá's work is inspired by three distinct landscapes: the sunsets of Havana, the forests of Hakone, and the urban pathways of New York City. This series reflects the techniques of Old Master painters who captured the evolving light within the same scene over time.
