Jörg Brüggemann's 'Metalheads' Documents Global Heavy Metal Community

German documentary photographer Jörg Brüggemann's long-term project 'Metalheads' captures the worldwide heavy metal subculture. Shot between 2008 and 2011 across Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the United States, the series reveals how a shared musical passion transcends cultural, religious, and class divides. The work was published as a monograph titled 'Metalheads – The Global Brotherhood' by Gestalten. Brüggemann, born in 1979 in Herne, Germany, studied photography at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen and has been a member of the Ostkreuz agency since 2009. He contributes to Rolling Stone, ZEITmagazin, and NEON.
