João Maria Gusmão's Analogue Film Installation at Zachęta

Portuguese artist João Maria Gusmão presents 'Following the White Tiger' at Zachęta – National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, an exhibition featuring a multichannel installation of his latest 16 mm films created specifically for the show. The project delves into the relationship between moving images and reality, prompting reflection on how film shapes our perception of the world. Drawing from everyday situations and urban landscapes, Gusmão transforms ordinary scenes into poetic meditations on perception, technology, and the act of looking. By working exclusively with analogue film, he foregrounds the material qualities of the cinematic image, revealing its physical texture and inherent imperfections. The exhibition runs from 28 August to 2 November 2026, inviting visitors to consider whether film can alter our understanding of reality.
