Jiadu Art Center Transforms Residential Spaces into Community Art Hub in China

MINOR lab has converted existing residential and commercial spaces in Yanjiao, Hebei Province, into Jiadu Art Center, a flexible community art network. Completed in 2021, the project repurposes three areas into an art center, café, and artist studio, creating an interconnected system for exhibitions, social activities, and creative work. The design employs movable walls, modular furniture, and a consistent material palette including terrazzo, steel, and strawboard to allow adaptable configurations. This intervention demonstrates how small-scale modifications can activate cultural spaces within housing-dominated environments, fostering a community-based art ecosystem.
