Jewish Museum Adds Works by Women Artists to Collection for Women's History Month

The Jewish Museum in New York has acquired multiple works by female artists, expanding its holdings with pieces by Carrie Mae Weems, Gloria Kisch, Barbara Levittoux-Świderska, Lillian Bassman, Julia Weist, and Ethel Fisher. The acquisitions include photography, sculpture, textiles, and paintings, aligning with the museum's mission to diversify its collection. Carrie Mae Weems contributes a chromogenic print from her 'Roaming' series depicting Rome's Jewish Ghetto, while Gloria Kisch's stainless steel menorah represents her metalwork. Barbara Levittoux-Świderska's woven sisal piece reflects the Polish School of Textile Arts, and Lillian Bassman's gelatin silver print showcases her fashion photography. Julia Weist's archival pigment print is part of her 'Public Record' project created with New York City government resources, and Ethel Fisher's oil portrait of artist Ilse Getz is currently displayed in the museum's 'Personas: Artists on Artists' installation.
