Jean-Luc Godard Retrospective Opens at Barcelona's La Virreina Centre de la Imatge

La Virreina Centre de la Imatge in Barcelona has launched 'Jean-Luc Godard. La fraternidad de las metáforas,' the most comprehensive retrospective to date of the French filmmaker's work. Curated by Manuel Asín, the exhibition features previously unseen materials from the Jean-Luc Godard Foundation, including 52 audiovisual documents, production notebooks, and preparatory archives for 'Histoire(s) du cinéma.' Spanning from Godard's first short film 'Opération 'béton'' (1954-55) to his final work 'Film annonce du film "Drôles de guerres"' (2022), the show examines how Godard transformed cinema into a medium for historical dialogue and critical thought, addressing 20th-century conflicts. Concurrently, the venue presents 'A Bunch of Questions with No Answers' (2025) by Alex Reynolds and Robert M. Ochshorn, a 23-hour film that serves as a contemporary counterpoint by compiling unanswered questions from U.S. State Department journalists about the genocide in Palestine.
