Jazz and dance shoes emerge as summer's must-have footwear trend

Michael Rider's debut collection for Celine, shown last summer in Paris, introduced soft lace-up ballet shoes that evoke jazz shoe construction, capturing a blend of fantasy and reality. The style has since appeared in vivid colors and materials, including a pre-scuffed pair in his first menswear show this June. Other designers like Loewe, Proenza Schouler, Gucci, and Miu Miu have also embraced the trend. Repetto, founded in 1947 as a ballet shoe manufacturer, has seen a resurgence, especially its 'Zizi' style worn by Mick Jagger and Jane Birkin. Wallpaper* style team selected nine dance-inspired shoes, including MM6 Maison Margiela's ballet flat with a numeric tag, Proenza Schouler's 'Glove' flats, Gucci's 'Prima' hybrid by Demna, and Miu Miu's 'Plume' satin sneakers. The trend reflects a desire for levity and comfort in footwear.
