James Cohan Gallery Rebrands as Norr Cohan After Founders Step Back
After 27 years, James and Jane Cohan have transferred ownership of their New York gallery to David Norr, the senior director, who will now run it on his own. The gallery will be renamed Norr Cohan. Jane is retiring, but James will still work with artists occasionally. Founded in 1999, the gallery has featured artists like Fred Tomaselli, Yinka Shonibare, Robert Smithson, and Kennedy Yanko. Norr joined in 2015 after curating at the Wexner Center for the Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland. He became a partner in 2018, co-owner in 2021, and will fully take over in 2026, with a carefully planned transition to uphold the gallery’s legacy.
