Jackson Morrow's photo essay documents Thailand's stray animal rescue network

For three years, photographer Jackson Morrow documented the stray animal rescue efforts in Thailand through the Soi Dog Foundation. His photo essay, featured in The Guardian, illustrates the intricate care systems supporting millions of stray cats and dogs. It highlights the work of veterinarian Dr. Nutta Siriwatchaiporn (Dr. Bow), who performs surgeries, alongside the foundation's continuous rescue missions. The piece also addresses the 2025 monsoon floods in Chiang Rai, the Cambodian-Thai border crisis where soldiers discovered puppies, and a Chachoengsao landfill housing over 700 stray dogs. Established in 2003, Soi Dog Foundation has sterilized more than 1.7 million animals via its Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return initiative, reflecting the compassion encouraged by Theravada Buddhism, practiced by over 90% of Thais, while also exposing the harsh realities of the dog meat trade, including a rescue in Bulacan and Basti's adoption in Manila after being saved from a slaughterhouse in Laoag City.
