Jack Souvant's Mysterious Musical Journey Begins in Kinshasa

An anonymous envelope arrives for Jack Souvant from Toulouse, containing a plane ticket to Kinshasa and the word 'Musique'. Once in the city, taxi driver Héros shares insights about the philosophy of 'même moral' as they navigate through Matonge. Souvant meets Love Lokombe, who leads Ngwaka Son Système, a group that crafts instruments from recycled materials. In Lemba, he discovers Sonor, the creator of Malinga-rock and leader of Ba Nkosi. He is then referred to luthier Socklo, who has been making guitars for prominent artists since 1978. After attending a concert by Orchestre symphonique kimbanguiste, he encounters director Balufu Bakupa-Kanyinda, who hints that Lumumba's mausoleum may provide answers. There, a stranger presents Souvant with another envelope containing a ticket to New Orleans and 'Musique'. The series is co-directed by Simon Decreuze, inspired by Guillaume Ajavon, featuring music by Benjamin Moussay, in collaboration with UNESCO and the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, and co-produced by France Médias Monde and the City of Toulouse.
