Ja-Sheng Chen Architects and Fa+p Design Forest Bathrooms in Taitung's Historic Railway District

Ja-Sheng Chen Architects and Fa+p have completed two public bathroom structures in Taitung, Taiwan, known as Forest Bathroom A and B. The project was finished in 2025 and occupies a 250-square-meter site. Forest Bathroom A is specifically located within a wooded area between TieHua Street and the railway grassland in Taitung's central district. The design team, led by architects JaSheng Chen and Kerby Chou, aimed to preserve the existing horizontal landscape of the forest strip while accommodating various activity needs. The location's rich railway heritage surrounding the old station influenced the architectural approach. The project falls under the public buildings category and involved a design team including Wang Kun-Cheng, Hsiao Te-Hung, Tsen Ling-Chiao, Chung Chen-Hsin, Lin Ching-Hao, Liu Chia-Yu, and Su Tien-I, with technical support from Lai Ping-Fu and Lu I-Chen. Photography was handled by Studio Millspace, and the project description was provided by the design team. The structures represent a thoughtful integration of public facilities into a natural, historically significant urban environment.
