Ivan Miranda's 14kg 3D-printed scooter disassembles for air travel
Ivan Miranda has developed a 14-kilogram electric scooter that’s mostly made from 3D-printed materials. The clever design allows it to be taken apart and packed into a suitcase for flying. He demonstrated this by taking the scooter to Maker Faire Prague, where he reassembled it and entered a luggage-friendly project contest. The scooter uses repurposed lawn mower tires on 3D-printed rims, powered by two 36-volt batteries, and features a belt-driven hub motor controlled by an Arduino. It also has an aluminum front fork for strength, a bi-stable kickstand, a storage-equipped hinged seat, and a modified bicycle disc brake. Miranda is shifting more parts to 3D-printed versions and has shared updated files and building instructions on his website, noting it’s just an experimental project, not a certified vehicle.
