Ishiuchi Miyako: Traces Monograph Charts Five Decades of Photography

Aperture has released "Ishiuchi Miyako: Traces," marking the first comprehensive English-language overview of the Japanese photographer's extensive fifty-year journey, curated by Lena Fritsch and Yasufumi Nakamori. The book is structured into three parts: Town, Skin & Scars, and Things Left Behind, showcasing significant works such as "Yokosuka Story" (1976–77), "1·9·4·7" (1988–89), and "Frida" (2012). It also features lesser-known pieces, previously unpublished content, and an interview with Ishiuchi, who was born in Kiryū in 1947. Having started her photography career in 1975, she received the Kimura Ihei Memorial Photographic Award in 1978. Her latest series, "Moving Away" (2015–18), was finished prior to the sale of her Yokohama darkroom. The monograph is set for release in 2026.
