Isern Serra Transforms Barcelona Industrial Space into Domestic Office for Octaevo
In Barcelona's Poblenou district, a 300 m² former industrial space has been converted into Casa Octaevo, a workspace designed to function like a home. Architect Isern Serra created the project for Octaevo, a Barcelona design brand founded by Marcel Baer that produces contemporary objects inspired by Mediterranean travel and family memories. The design deliberately rejects traditional office efficiency in favor of domestic logic, with a sculptural stainless steel kitchen island placed at its heart. This central element organizes a fluid sequence of connected environments defined by soft curves and natural light. A five-meter-long table encourages collective work and gathering, while flexible curtains and a glass block wall separate areas without fully enclosing them. The rear workshop space accommodates production, photography, and diverse activities. The material palette features light tones, continuous surfaces, and selected furnishings including Stedelijk chairs from bd Barcelona, Flos lighting, and Frama furniture, alongside Octaevo's own products and vintage pieces. The architecture prioritizes daily use over representation, creating a serene Mediterranean atmosphere.
