Isabel Nuño de Buen Presents Multilayered Works at Madrid Exhibition

Artist Isabel Nuño de Buen is currently showing her work at Belmonte gallery in Madrid. Her exhibition features mixed-media pieces that explore themes of time, memory, and spatial relationships through layered compositions. The artist employs techniques including stitching, drawing, and assemblage to create works that resist flatness, incorporating materials such as tracing paper, charcoal, graphite, watercolor, gauze, and fabric. These elements are combined to form paper tapestries that reference natural forms and human anatomy while suggesting interconnected narratives. A notable development in this presentation is the inclusion of three small bronze sculptures, marking Nuño de Buen's first use of this material. These three-dimensional pieces extend her drawing practice into sculptural form, examining boundaries between surface and volume. The exhibition continues her exploration of labor-intensive artisanal methods like quilting, connecting to her earlier Codex series that drew inspiration from indigenous Mesoamerican visual communication systems. Through accumulative processes of cutting, pasting, and sewing, the artist creates works that function as both personal cartographies and meditations on temporal experience.
