Iron Man debut comic art fetches record $3.875M at Heritage Auctions

At the Comic Art Signature Auction hosted by Heritage Auctions on July 10, the original artwork for Iron Man’s first appearance, featured on the opening page of Tales of Suspense No. 39 from March 1963, sold for a staggering $3,875,000, setting a new benchmark for original comic art. Created by Don Heck, this piece captures the moment Tony Stark becomes a superhero. The bidding was fierce, with six participants driving the price well over $3 million. Joe Mannarino, the Director of Comics & Comic Art at Heritage Auctions, pointed out the scarcity of early Marvel splash pages and noted how the character gained immense popularity after the 2008 film featuring Robert Downey Jr.
