Iran Seeks Clarification from Gulf States After Downing Chinese-Made Drone

Iran has formally requested explanations from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates following the downing of a Chinese-manufactured Wing Loong II drone. The incident occurred over Shiraz on Thursday, as confirmed by Esmail Baqaei, a spokesperson for Iran's foreign ministry. Baqaei shared images of the wreckage on social media, asserting that the drone's presence could indicate direct involvement and active cooperation by neighboring nations in what he described as aggression and war crimes perpetrated by the United States and Israel against Iran. He specifically called for clarification from the two regional states known to operate this type of drone. Initial reports from Iran's Tasnim news agency mistakenly identified the aircraft as an American MQ-9 Reaper, but subsequent analysis confirmed it as a Wing Loong II, which shares similar dimensions and appearance with the Reaper. Both Saudi Arabia and the UAE are recognized as operators of this reconnaissance and precision strike drone model.
